Maryse and I sourced Snail Protein deep in Patagonia forest in Chile. We were so amazed by its benefits we decided to share it with everyone by creating Caracol Skincare. You must wonder what's so amazing about this strange ingredient? Let us tell you why.
First things first, let's explore the snail slime itself. We call it snail slime but there are so many names: mucin, secretion and Helix Aspersa secretion. But what makes it so miraculous? Let's see what it's made of.

Snail Protein: what is it made of?

Snail Protein is so full of powerful actives it would make jealous the huge brands of the industry. What are these actives?

Allantoin

Produced by some animals and plants, allantoin is known for its anti-irritating and hydrating properties. Allantoin boosts the cell growth and is very effective on the skin even at a weak concentration ( from 0,1%). Isn't it spectacular?
It is mainly used to rebuild the skin cells after burns, wounds... Allantoin regenerates the damaged cells of the epidermis.

Collagen

Did you know collagen was the most abundant protein in the body? It is found in your skin, blood, bones, and joints? Your skin is made of 75% of collagen! This protein increases skin elasticity, provides structure to joints and protects your organs. More elasticity implies a firmer and young looking skin. Unfortunately, your collagen production slows down with age. Some of your lifestyle habits can even accelerate this decrease: like smoking, sun exposition, stress... Your skin gets flabby and wrinkles tend to show up. Therefore, you definitely need to boost your natural collagen production by providing external collagen to your body.

Hyaluronic acid

The word "acid" can seem scary. But trust us, it's way beyond wonderful! The largest amount of it is in your skin and eyes. Hyaluronic acid helps rebuild the skin cells. Babies are born with a lot of hyaluronic acid in their body, that's why their skin is so soft and plumpy. And with age, the skin doesn't maintain moisture and water as it used to. That's a real vicious circle cause without acid you can keep water. The skin gets dehydrated, starts to sag and becomes less toned. And that's how fine lines appear. And there's no need to be 40, this phenomenon can even start at 20 yo!

Elastin

Elastin provides the upper layers of skin extreme elasticity as it is 1,000 times more flexible than collagen. Let's try something! Tend your arm in front of you, pinch your skin. Let it go... The skin gets back to its initial position. That's because of elastin! But on contrary to hyaluronic acid and collagen, elastin doesn't renew. So be careful and take care of your elastin. Overexposing your skin under the sun can destroy elastin. So protect your epidermis from UV rays.

Acid Glycolic

Glycolic acid is naturally found in snail slime. In cosmetics, it is extracted from fruits or sugar cane. Its exfoliating action helps to remove dead cells. Glycolic acid is also very good at repairing damages caused by UV rays, pollution or even tobacco. The acid takes off the damaged cells and goes deep down the skin to help create a new skin layer, more beautiful. Just like a snake shedding its own skin.
But the true benefit of this natural molecule is that it can function like a peeling and brightens, smoothes the skin and removes the little flaws. Can it be even better? Yes! It fits every skin type: dry, oily, mixt... everyone can use it!

Amino acids

Another cell component, these proteins the amino acids fight against diabetes, osteoporosis, heart attacks and are a real anti-aging agent. They improve the quality of the skin, hair, nails and fight skin aging.

Vitamins A, C & E

Full of antioxidants, these vitamins fight free radicals. Vitamin A stimulates the cell renewal, favors the blood circulation and reinforces the immune system.
As for Vitamins C and E, they fight cardiovascular diseases, cancers and especially skin aging.
You know now that there are so many amazing ingredients to keep your skin young, beautiful and healthy. Did you know that thanks to their slime snails can rebuild their shell when it's cracked? So why not repair your skin the same way?
The Mapuche Indians know it well. And it was during our trip in Chile we noticed the incredible effects snail slime had on their skin. A real baby skin although they live under an extreme climate.
But what about the virtues?

What are the virtues of snail slime?

We told you how fantastic the mucin of this little animal was, but in a more concrete way, what does it do?
  • Regenerate the epidermis
Thanks to its main actives, snail protein is going to stimulate the cell production by providing your skins the proteins it needs to be at it best: collagen, hyaluronic acid, elastin...
  • Clear the skin
Glycolic acid is going to remove the dirt from the skin pores. It's the perfect fit for those who suffer from a skin infection like acne, eczema, psoriasis. It will also balance the sebum production.
  • Hydrate the deep layers
Thanks to the action of the hyaluronic acid, Grâce à l’action de l’acide hyaluronique qui retient l’eau à l’intérieur des cellules, la peau reste hydratée.
